Career Stories

Louise Cook.

After spending over 30 years as a secretary and the last 18 years working within an accountancy practice, I felt like I needed a new challenge. It was a big move, after so long in one place, but when I saw the post of secretary to Rachel within the Litigation/Employment Department within Awdry Law back in 2019, I jumped at the chance to apply.

I can definitely say it’s the best decision I have ever made! It’s such a varied job and each and every case is really interesting. Rachel is so fantastic and makes you feel like a key member of her team. She spends time, most days, talking through her cases with me so that I understand what progression has been made and what we can do to advance each matter and, in turn, when clients call, I feel I can help and take some of the pressure off of her shoulders. It’s extremely rewarding.

I am also so lucky to work with such an amazing group of people! There is such a wonderful team spirit and whether you are a partner, fee earner, secretary or receptionist, you are made to feel like you are a key member of the firm. The partners and managers don’t use any hierarchy, they are just kind, approachable and always happy to invite you in to chat about any concerns, feedback or ideas you may have. They are always happy to listen, which makes Awdry Law truly unique.

I cannot praise the firm enough. They have made me feel so welcome since I joined the team and I can safely say that I have already made some life-long friends. I feel so lucky to have been given this opportunity and am excited to see what the future holds within the firm.
