Career Stories

Lisa Tugwell.

I started my career in law at just 17 and worked as a Legal Secretary for 10 years. Following a career change, 6 years later I decided it was time to return to law, which is when I joined Awdry Law as a post-completion clerk in their Marlborough conveyancing team.

After re-familiarising myself with the legal world, I moved role to become a Legal Secretary and was promoted to a Legal Assistant thereafter. In this time, both my experience and confidence in the world of conveyancing grew and the support I was given from the senior members of the team was invaluable.

In 2021, Awdry Law opened a Swindon office and I relocated and was just one of four in the team. Three years later, the team has fifteen people (with more new starters joining soon) and it is fantastic to see the growth in such a short space of time.

Since moving to the Swindon office, I was promoted to a Paralegal in April 2022 and then to a Residential Conveyancer in April 2024. I thoroughly enjoy helping clients move into their homes swiftly and with minimum stress, by providing an efficient and friendly service. I am particularly proud of the relationships I have built with other property professionals and of the client feedback and personal recommendations I regularly receive.

I have worked here for almost 8 years and cannot imagine myself anywhere else. Everyone in the firm, at all levels, genuinely want you to succeed and will back and support you in your career aspirations. There is a very friendly and welcoming feel across all the offices, and I have made many life-long friends working here.

I hope that my career story is a source of inspiration for those who haven’t taken a traditional route into law; as with the right firm, you will be able to progress and flourish within your legal career.

Thank you to the Management Board at Awdry Law for the continued advancement of my career and I look forward to seeing what the next years bring for both myself and the company.
